This class meets you where you are. We will continue getting comfortable with your camera. The more you understand your camera, the better you’ll be able to share your view of the world. One of the amazing things about photography is there is always something new to learn.

You will learn how to ‘see’ the world through your camera and that means being able to see light! Light is the foundation of all photography.

Learning to take photographs manually is an exciting skill! By adjusting the features of the camera  (aperture, shutter speed, and ISO), you’ll be able to create images that reflect more of what you see. We’ll look at ‘bad’ lighting images and together figure out how to make them better.

This will empower you to problem solve and know how to capture the image you want when you’re out shooting on your own.

Each class will continue to develop your eye for light while learning about composition and various styles of photography inspiring creativity and exploration.

In the final week, students will work on preparing and selecting an image(s) for a final project based on a topic learned throughout the course.

Small class sizes ensure plenty of support and discussion of each student's work.

Homework:

There will be weekly assignments to encourage curiosity, play, experimentation and discovery. The assignments are an important part of the learning process to promote better understanding of the class lessons.

Each week, your learner will turn in work to share and discuss their experience and ask any questions around the assignment. This will be a positive experience. Learning is hard. You can’t be expected to know things you’re learning for the first time. And trying is a value I hold higher than accomplishment. We will try each week and learn from each other.

They will also share positive feedback with each other as a way to practice the language around the new terms and concepts.

Supply List:

  1. A DSLR camera, or other camera with a manual exposure mode to adjust the settings for aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.

  2. A memory card

  3. Camera battery and charger

  4. The cable for the camera or a memory card reader to upload images.

  5. The camera manual. When I was learning I carried this around in my back pocket. So helpful! We can find it online, if you don’t have one.

  6. A computer with an internet connection and web browser to upload photos.

  7. Zoom set-up on computer

How it works:

The week before class starts, you’ll schedule a 10-min 1:1 call, for me to say hello to your student and see what camera they are using. I’ll be able to help them more specifically, if we can create a rapport before the small group class.

Meet once a week via Zoom

      • There will also be an optional drop-in zoom call available at the end of each week for additional questions.

      • For the comfort and security of the class, all students need to be on camera to introduce themselves.

      • If they need to turn their video off later due to internet connection, screen fatigue, learning style, moving around, etc., they may, but in that case they are required to particulate fully via audio.

      • Virtual backgrounds are ok.

Housekeeping:

If your student decides learning how to use a dslr after the first class isn’t for them, I will give you a refund minus $35. All sales are final, if dropped after 2nd class.
